Does God exist? Evidence suggests he does.

Does God exist? Why Atheism doesn’t make sense.

It seems that atheism has become one of the more predominant voices in the West. I hear this a lot from people on all sides of the spectrum. Normally from people who identify as atheists, but even from agnostics and Christians who are having times of doubt. I think everyone has asked whether God exists at one point in their lives.

But can we ever know the truth? Can we find evidence to lead us to a conclusion?

The purpose of this article will not be to prove a specific religion’s God, but more so to determine whether or not there is an intelligent creator behind this universe.

Let’s take a look at the atheistic world view and compare it with observations from our world.

Atheism: “There is no God and we all evolved over billions of years from star dust.”

In Western culture, science is king. The West has replaced priests with scientists, and churches & cathedrals with higher education institutions. It is no wonder why skepticism and doubt run rampant. Our society is built on testing and retesting theories until they are empirically proven false.

The common atheistic view is that there is no divine creator, and that we all are simply a product of billions of years of evolution.
And it is totally understandable why people hold this view, because it is taught in most schools across the Western world. Of course this will be a popular perspective when it is taught to children at an early age.

To begin, we must remember that the theory of evolution is just that – a theory. While most institutions take it as fact, the truth is that evolution is only a theory explaining the origins of the universe. It is not proven to be fact. In actuality, there is no evidence which supports inter-specie evolution.

Darwin’s experiments and observations only showed “micro-evolution”. An example of micro-evolution is when Darwin observed that over time certain birds grew longer beaks so they could eat hard-to-reach bugs. However, in all of Darwin’s experiments, in fact in all of human history, no one has ever observed inter-specie evolution. That is, one specie evolving into another.

What does the evidence suggest? Let’s take a look at our universe and see if we can deduce anything truth from it.

Fine tuning argument:

One thing we see with our universe is that it is very “finely tuned”. There are certain “constants” or fixed values of variables which make up our universe. We find that these values are calibrated at highly specific levels. So much so, that if these values were changed by just a fraction of a fraction, the universe would not be able to sustain life. Atheism chooses to ignore these highly specific calibrations, and writes them off as just how creation played out.

Here are the fine tuning parameters thanks to godandscience.org:

  1. strong nuclear force constant
  2. weak nuclear force constant
  3. gravitational force constant
  4. electromagnetic force constant
  5. the ratio of electromagnetic force constant to gravitational force constant
  6. specific ratio of electron to proton mass
  7. ratio of number of protons to number of electrons
  8. expansion rate of the universe
  9. entropy level of the universe
  10. mass density of the universe
  11. initial uniformity of radiation
  12. density of galaxy cluster
  13. fine structure constant (describing the fine-structure splitting of spectral lines) if larger: all stars would be at least 30% less massive than the sun
  14. decay rate of protons
  15. 12C to 16O nuclear energy level ratio
  16. ground state energy level for 4He
  17. decay rate of 8Be
  18. ratio of neutron mass to proton mass
  19. initial excess of nucleons over anti-nucleons
  20. polarity of the water molecule
  21. supernovae eruptions
  22. white dwarf binaries
  23. ratio of exotic matter mass to ordinary matter mass
  24. number of effective dimensions in the early universe
  25. number of effective dimensions in the present universe
  26. mass of the neutrino
  27. big bang ripples
  28. size of the relativistic dilation factor
  29. uncertainty magnitude in the Heisenberg uncertainty principle
  30. cosmological constant

For example, if the gravitational force constant were a microscopic bit larger, then stars would be too hot and would burn too rapidly and too unevenly for life chemistry. If the constant was a fraction of a fraction of a fraction (etc.) smaller then stars would be too cool to ignite nuclear fusion; thus, many of the elements needed for life chemistry would never form.

If the universe expansion rate was the slightest bit larger, no galaxies would be able to form. If the value was a fraction of a hair smaller, the universe would have imploded on itself before the stars were even formed!

These are just two examples illustrating if ANY of the above constants were altered in the slightest bit, the universe would be inhabitable!

Here is a good video explaining some of the ideas above:

DNA complexity argument:

Another strong argument for the case against atheism and for intelligent design is DNA. DNA is essentially a programming language. You can look at it as the very source code that tells us how we will develop and grow.

DNA is THE most complex programming language in the universe. If you take Google’s most complex algorithm and compare it to DNA, it would be no contest. Google’s best & brightest couldn’t even come close to developing such code.

And yet, atheism contends that this extremely sophisticated and complex code was developed through billions of years of random accidents. It is hard to conceive this to be the case.

Take the common “Watchmaker” argument. Let’s say you were on an island walking along the beach and you happen to stumble upon a wrist watch. Would you assume that watch was a result of random processes? Or would you know that someone designed and built that watch? Using this example, how much more complex is DNA than a simple watch!

Leading figure in field of atheism suggests intelligent design is not so preposterous?

Even the world’s leading atheist Richard Dawkins admits the evidence for intelligent design is compelling:

Well, it could come about in the following way: it could be that at some earlier time, somewhere in the universe, a civilization evolved by probably some kind of Darwinian means to a very, very high level of technology, and designed a form of life that they seeded onto, perhaps, this planet. Now that is a possibility, and an intriguing possibility. And I suppose it’s possible that you might find evidence for that if you look at the details of our chemistry, molecular biology, you might find a signature of some sort of designer, and that designer could well be a higher intelligence from elsewhere in the universe. But that higher intelligence would itself have had to have come about by some explicable, or ultimately explicable, process. It couldn’t have just jumped into existence spontaneously. That’s the point.
