Pope Francis Controversy: Wants to Change the Lord’s Prayer

Pope Francis stirring up more controversy this past week suggesting to change the Lord’s Prayer

Pope Francis is making headlines again this week. Controversial, border-line heretical statements are nothing out of the ordinary for The Pope. And he has now stated that he would like to make an amendment to the Lord’s Prayer.

It seems as though the Bible is all over the news as of late. Just last week was the announcement from President Trump declaring Jerusalem as Israel’s capital. Now this week the Bible is making more headlines.

In an interview with an Italian TV show, Francis says the Lord’s Prayer includes a bad translation. He states that the line, “And lead us not into temptation” was “not a good translation” from the ancient Biblical texts.

Pope Francis suggests to update the verse as “Do not let us fall into temptation”. He claims that God does not lead people into temptation,
Satan does.

For those of you who do not know what the Lord’s Prayer is, you can find it in Matthew 6:9-13:

9 After this manner therefore pray ye: Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name.
10 Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven.
11 Give us this day our daily bread.
12 And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors.
13 And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen.

But what does the Bible say about this?

Even if The Pope is right, does he have Biblical precedence to make such a decision? Does the Bible give man authority to change or amend verses? What Pope Francis is suggesting is not only forbidden in the Bible but also condemned. We read in Proverbs 30:5-6:

5 Every word of God is pure: he is a shield unto them that put their trust in him.
6 Add thou not unto his words, lest he reprove thee, and thou be found a liar.

Proverbs clearly states that adding to the scriptures is strictly forbidden. We also read the same in Revelation 22:18:

18 For I testify unto every man that heareth the words of the prophecy of this book, If any man shall add unto these things, God shall add unto him the plagues that are written in this book:

As we can see, Pope Francis’ suggestion has no Biblical support. Not only that, but the repercussions of doing so are extremely dangerous according to these verses.

The more we hear from The Pope, the more we wonder who is allegiance really is to. Pope Francis will no doubt be making more headlines like this in the future.
